Welcome to FarmHouse Vineyards – an organic winery located in Petoskey, Michigan. Owners John and Nancy Plichta have a true passion for farming – Nancy tends to an organic garden every summer and also grows her own lavender. About 10 years ago, they decided to extend their passion into planting a vineyard.
Knowing that the cold climate in Northern Michigan limited their choices in grape varieties, John started out by growing the Valiant grape variety. The Valiant grapes are a “cold hardy grape” (perfect for withstanding our winters!) that produce a sweet, tangy flavor. After growing this variety for several years and after extensive research, John decided to plant Marquette grapes (another cold variety grape). The Marquette grapes can produce a more complex red wine with flavors of cherry, black pepper, and spice.
At FarmHouse Vineyards, we pride ourselves on our organic vineyard – we have never applied any pesticides or treated our grapes with any chemicals. Everything we do is organic…we even have sheep as a “natural fertilizer” and they help us prune the grapes!
This is a quaint vineyard in Petoskey – our children, grandkids, friends, and neighbors pick the grapes on Harvest Day. And we make the wine ourselves! This has become a “family adventure” and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Please join us for wine tastings on Fridays & Saturdays from 1p-7p. We look forward to seeing you out here!
